Privacy policy
Provisional version of 11 October 2026, pending legal review. The Spanish version is the reference text.
Sonicrew is for marking a song, saying what you play and getting your band together. We collect the minimum for that to work. There is no advertising. The app has no third-party analytics and no cookies. Only if you give us permission do we measure how you use the app, and only to improve it (see "Usage measurement"). We don't ask for or store your WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok or Discord accounts: you share with your own phone's apps.
Who is responsible
[PENDING: name or company name, tax ID and address of the controller.]
Privacy contact: privacidad@sonicrew.com.
What data we process and why
- When you create a room: the song link (YouTube), its public title, artist and artwork, your instrument, the spots you're looking for, the network where you post and, if you give it, your musician name. It is used to show the room to whoever you invite.
- When you join: the name you type and your spot. Anyone with the room link can see them.
- Inside the band: chat messages, the song sheet (key, tempo, chords) and the recordings you upload when playing in turns. Only band members can see them.
- Microphone: it only records when you tap "Record my part". The recording leaves your phone only if you tap "Upload my take".
- Account (optional): if you choose to save your rooms with your email, we store that email, your profile (name, instruments, language) and your room keys, so you can get them back on another phone. We email you a sign-in link; there is no password.
- Abuse protection: to apply limits (for example, rooms per day) we use your IP address transformed with a hash function that changes every day. We don't store your IP in clear.
Usage measurement (only if you accept)
The first time you open the app we ask whether we may measure how you use it. You can say no and the app works the same. Accepting the terms does not mean accepting measurement: it's a separate choice.
- What we measure: what you do in the app (opening it, creating or opening a room, joining, sharing, saving the sheet, studying your part, playing with the band, recording or uploading a take, writing in the chat, linking your account), with the room and instrument when relevant; your time zone and language; whether you use the browser, the installed app or the Android app; and whether it's a phone or a computer.
- How we tell you apart: with a random identifier created on your phone when you accept. It's not your name or your email. We don't store your IP with this data or use your GPS location.
- What for: only to improve Sonicrew (what gets used, where people get stuck, what's missing). Never for advertising, and it's never sold or shared with anyone.
- Where and how long: on our Amazon Web Services servers in Ireland, no third parties, deleted after 13 months.
- Changing it: in "Your profile → Usage measurement" you can turn it off at any time and delete your measurement data.
Legal basis
- Providing the service you ask for (creating rooms, joining, chat, recordings): performance of the service.
- The email account: your consent, which you can withdraw by deleting the account.
- Abuse limits: our legitimate interest in the service working for everyone.
- Usage measurement: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Google Analytics on the website: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
How long we keep data
- Rooms, with their members, messages and sheet: deleted after 90 days without activity.
- Recordings: deleted after 90 days, and only the last 3 per spot are kept.
- Sign-in links: expire after 15 minutes and work only once.
- Limit counters (with the hashed IP): about 2 days.
- Account: until you delete it.
- Usage measurement data (if you accepted): 13 months, or until you delete it from your profile.
- Google Analytics cookies on the website (if you accepted): 13 months.
- Emails you send to privacidad@sonicrew.com: 1 year, so we can handle and document your request.
Where the data is and who helps us
- Amazon Web Services hosts the app and the data (Ireland region, EU) and sends the sign-in emails. To serve the website faster it uses its content delivery network, with servers outside the EU.
- Google Analytics (Google Ireland): only on the sonicrew.com website and only if you tap "Accept" in the notice. It counts visits: which pages you see, which site you came from, your approximate country and your device type, with cookies (_ga) that last 13 months. Google may process this data in the US (EU-US Data Privacy Framework). We don't use Google Signals or advertising. If you don't accept, nothing from Google is loaded. To change your choice, tap "Cookies" at the bottom of the website. The app (app.sonicrew.com) doesn't use it.
- YouTube (Google): we ask YouTube for the title and artwork of the link you paste, and the artwork loads from its servers in your browser, so YouTube receives your IP when you view a room.
- Practice links (Songsterr, Ultimate Guitar, Genius) only open if you tap them; from then on, those sites' privacy policies apply.
- DeepSeek (China): since October 12, 2026 it translates the room chat. We send it only the text of each message and the language to translate it into; we don't send your name, your room, your email or your IP (the request comes from our servers). Whatever you type inside a message reaches it as is: do not include phone numbers or other people's details. According to its privacy policy, DeepSeek processes and stores data in the People's Republic of China and may use it to improve its models. China has no EU adequacy decision. If you don't want your messages to go through DeepSeek, don't write in the room chat. Each translation is stored in the room and deleted with it. DeepSeek also suggests the chords when a room is created: for that we send it only the song title and artist, never anything about you.
What is stored on your phone
Sonicrew stores in your browser's storage your profile, your rooms, the keys to enter them and, if you have an account, your session. It is needed for the app to work. It also stores your answer about usage measurement and, only if you accepted, the random measurement identifier. You can delete it in "Your profile → Delete my data from this phone".
Your rights
You can access your data, correct it, delete it, ask for portability or object to its processing. You edit your profile in the app; you delete your account with "Delete my account". For anything else, write to privacidad@sonicrew.com. If you think we have not handled your rights properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (aepd.es) or to the authority of your country.
Age
You must be at least 14 years old to use Sonicrew. If you are younger, don't use it. If we learn that an account or a room belongs to someone under 14, we delete it.
Changes
If we change anything important (for example, turning on automatic translation), we will publish it here with its date.
